In digital textile printing tailoring the material is complex. What options are optimal for your needs are best clarified with an Erler+Pless expert as sometimes the artistry here lies in a skilled variant or unusual combination.
Hot cropping
A hot knife is used to cut textiles and the textiles welded at the edges to prevent fraying.
Rings
Another option is to reinforce hems and use rings. This may be all the way round or just one edge.
Fearnought and Velcro
A fearnaught tape all round with a Velcro tape gives you the option of tensioning the ad using the Velcro.
Clamping rails
Of aluminium or plastic, suited to any motif as they're plain. They're installed top and bottom and available in various sizes and colours. For banners up to about 120 cm wide thin rails are also available, transparent are most suitable. For wider banners there are bigger rails to ensure the banner hangs straight.
Textile tensioning frame "rubber piping"Extremely flat aluminium frame system for textile posters with rubber piping that disappears in a groove. This gives the impression of framelessness. Very easy to handle. Easy picture replacement as the frame stays on the wall.

The hollow hem and its options
A hollow hem is often used on banners and can also be called a tunnel or loop. It may be used in various ways.
1. Circular aluminium piping or wooden rods can be inserted in upper and lower hems. The weight ensures the banner hangs straight. A thread can be secured to the upper rod/pipe to hang the banner up.
2. Light welding wire of about three mm thickness can be sewn into the lower hem.
3. Lengths of lead can sewn into the lower hem. The banner remains flexible despite the bottom weight, like a curtain.
4. Plastic rods/tubes can be sewn into the hem as piping and then inserted in curtain railing. The piping railing is sectional with the piping inserted longitudinally without friction and then moved. This is a very good way of tailoring textiles for wall and ceiling hanging.
Picture on the right sight: Exxon Mobil selected long textile banners on flag material to give the impression of transparency for its exhibition stand. The banners had hollow hems with aluminium piping and were hung on the ceiling on site.
